The community of Bonsall was founded in the 1870’s and is roughly bordered by the San Luis Rey River to the north an Gopher Canyon to the south. Most of the community is upscale residential on large lots. Condominiums, townhomes and patio homes are available near the San Luis Rey Downs horse training facility and around the Pala Mesa golf course.

Bonsall is well known for some very prestigious thoroughbred ranches. Vessels Ranch has bred some of the finest Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racehorses in the country for the last twenty years. It sits on 2,200 acres of manicured grass, rolling hills, mountains, riverbed and includes, four lakes, 300 acres of avocado trees and 800 acres of undeveloped “open space” with seasonal streams. It also maintains its own airplane runway.

Many homes in Bonsall enjoy an ocean view that comes with cool afternoon breezes, keeping the humidity levels low and constant. Bonsall Unified School District has been recognized for their outstanding test scores and now offer classes from Kindergarten to High School.
